Lessons from the Hapu’u

One day with the

Hapu’u Fern and I am

Already learning

More about how I should see life

Unfurling with more than one

way to reach out

Each time growing longer

farther reaching

but this cocoon is necessary for now

to hold me, it is comfortable

Why don’t I know how to

appreciate the down time

why don’t I

know how to hold onto you

inside of this blanket

holding on to me

You keep me moist and warm and

my spine arches around every thing

That I know we are meant to be

In this hapu’u curl just

loving every little soft and supple

fur I stay nestled until

I grow too big but how

I’m going to miss

My precious little hapu’u

cuddled up

and not alone
